Wind Studio Overview

Plugin v1.2.1 - Turns any Static Mesh (trees, plants, grass, banners, flags, cables, props) into a wind-animated asset for Epic's GPU Dynamic Wind, Pivot Painter 2 materials or the plugin's CPU Physics solver.

This guide is the text of the Studio's DOCS tab. In the Studio, hover any control for its tooltip, hold Ctrl+Alt for the extended tooltip, and press F1 over a control to jump to its entry in the Settings Reference.

Runtime tiers

TierWhat is builtBest for
GPUNanite skinned mesh driven by Epic Dynamic Wind (Instanced Skinned Mesh + DA_DynamicWindProvider). Only Epic data is exported: groups (Core / Mid / Outer = Simulation Group 0 / 1 / 2), influences, trunk flag, gust attenuation, ground cover.Large amounts of foliage
Pivot PaintStatic Mesh with Pivot Painter 2 data (UV and two textures) animated by MF_CAAPivotPaint; 100 % compatible with Epic's Pivot Painter 2.Instanced foliage, material-driven wind
CPU PhysicsSkeletal Mesh driven by the plugin's chain solver (trees use a modal core), solved on worker threads.Hero assets, cloth, cables, character contact

The Motion card (WIND tab) drives Pivot Paint and the CPU tree mode, never the GPU tier.

Workflow at a glance

  1. PARTS (Shift+1): split the mesh into parts. Unassigned triangles never move.
  2. BONES (Shift+2): Auto Bones per part, or place bones by hand; paint weights where needed.
  3. WIND (Shift+3): choose Asset Type and Runtime Tier, preview with Simulate Wind (Space).
  4. INTERACTION (Shift+4): how characters push or block the asset.
  5. BUILD (Shift+5): build the mesh (F7), optimise it, place it with a Level Wind Manager.
  6. DOCS (Shift+6): this guide and the Settings Reference.

Studio layout

  • Left rail: the six tabs. Each tab is a column of cards; settings are saved with the rig.
  • Viewport: the mesh, bones, gizmos, grid and scale ruler. Unreal's navigation is unchanged: RMB + W A S D Q E to fly, Alt + mouse to orbit, dolly and pan, MMB to pan, mouse wheel to zoom.
  • Top bar: pick mode, selection tools, part creation, tools, wind preview, paint brush values.
  • Right bar: display modes (Lit, Parts, Clay, Weights, Wind), bones, grid, scale ruler, backdrop, VIEW window, camera views.
  • Floating windows (Pivot, Wind, Build, Skin Weights, View, Grid, Scale...): pin to keep them open; Esc closes unpinned windows.
  • Autosave: the rig is saved 3 s after every edit (Ctrl+S saves immediately). Load Latest brings it back.
